Elizabeth (Lizzie) Welcher

In her letter dated 19 January 2000 Bet Redhead, daughter-in-law of Elizabeth Welcher writes about her:

'A very good housewife, cleaning, a marvellous cook, and sewing, and of course a much loved mother, and might I add well respected by many in the village and thought greatly of by folk on Primrose Hill, ready to give help if needed and in those days there were some poor families.

'(She) and her father were very close, maybe because she was the first born. I told Mildred this incident after her mother died, as her health was deteriorating (she) spent more time in bed. On the Sunday morning 2nd April the day (she) died, (her husband) phoned to say she was very poorly, we went and then returned there again at 9am and I was in her room with her, she looked up to the ceiling and said "you do look well Father", later in the day at 4pm I and Sylvia Shaw who helped a great deal were with her, and bless her she just glanced at us both and sighed and was gone, so peaceful and she richly deserved to pass away like that.'
