I am interested in the fact that Mary Anne Skinner married Andrew Longmore at SUNBURY in Middlesex in 1793. Of course Sunbury may have no significance - it may be entirely coincidental - but it would be natural that she would choose to be married by a Skinner uncle or cousin who was a cleric, and I recollect that the Skynner pedigree was furnished to the College of Heralds many years before by William Skynner, Vicar of Sunbury. The text about this pedigree reads as follows:
"'The MS pedigree was furnished to Mr Dale, at the Herald's College, in 1708, by the Rev William Skynner, Vicar of Sunbury, who died July 21, 1717; he was an elder brother of Captain Samuel Skynner, on whose monument, in Ledbury Church, it is quaintly stated that he was "no mean proficient in maritime affairs, having been conversant therein near forty years.'
The date of the pedigree is more than a hundred years older, for Sir Thomas Skynner, who died while Lord Mayor of London, in 1596, is there mentioned as Alderman Skynner, and Richard Skynner of Pycksley, born 1577, is one of the last recorded in it."
Mary Anne's father was Mathew Skinner of Richmond Green, and his father, who would have been the same generation as William Skynner of Sunbury, was also called Mathew Skinner - his brothers were Richard and Samuel - no William there. This Mathew's father was Robert Skynner, and he had a brother, Mathew, whose descendants are unknown to me. This last Mathew could have had as sons Captain Samuel Skynner the sailor and William the Vicar of Sunbury, who, though he died in 1717, might have had a son who was also a priest at Sunbury. All this is entirely fanciful, and remains to be proven. This note is just to record the possibility.
