Biography
From 'Warriors and Priests' pages 195 and 196:

"On 6 June 1535/6 he received regrant of lands of Ardgour, his previous charters having been destroyed by his enemies (RMS iii no 1536). He was one of the concillors of Donald Lord of the Isles who wrote to Henry VIII on 28 July 1545 (L38;P Henry VIII, XXI(I), 1298). On 6 February 1545/6 he received a respitt for the treasonable assistance given by him and others to the English when they burnt Bute and Arran (RSS iii, 1534)> He was evidently dead by 29 Sept 1546 (RSS iii, 1916)."

"After John's death Hector Mor of Duart is said by A Maclean Sinclair to have conveyed 'the lands and barony of Ardgour' to Allan son of John son of Allan third son of Ewen of Ardgour. He quotes a charter of March 1549 (Clan Gillean, 307) but I have found no evidence to support this claim. Dr Hector Maclean evidently thought this Allan was Ewen of Ardgour's eldest son (NLS ACC 7609, 45)."
