Emma Pearce

Douglas Grant wrote: "Emma lived with her parents, James and Elizabeth, until at least 1851. In 1861 she was with James and Priscilla. She was with Priscilla Elizabeth as Co-Principal of girls schools in Woodchester (1871),Stonehouse (1891) and Chard (1991). In 1901, they were retired schoolmistresses llving in Bristol." and on 19 March 2011: "She is listed as James Sr's daughter in the 1851 census. But Elizabeth would have been 52 at the time of Emma's birth in 1833. I think it is reasonable to speculate that she is the daughter of Alfred Pearce and Emma Smith, who were married in 1831. Perhaps Emma Smith died in childbirth, or soon after, and baby Emma was taken in by the grandparents."
