Annotation in Ann Mandell's (nee Gregory) copy of the Chaplin and Skinner book, probably by Ayrton Chaplin: "Matilda A Chaplin used to say that the Rev A P d'Arblay was very much attached to Louisa Chaplin (Mrs Wickham); but he was never found by his clerk when wanted to perform religious rites, so the Rev P Chaplin often acted for him; he was fond of being with the officers in Albany St Barracks.
In Madame d'Arblay's Diaries and Letters, underdate November 1828, we read: "I came from Camden Town very unwillingly - but Alex was called to Cambridge to an audit, so I took that opportunity to make a breakup."
