On 23.1.2012 Ed Purvis of the National Army Museum in Royal Hospital Road, Chelsea, London emailed me out of the blue as follows:
"Dear Mr Ray-Jones
In 2004 a gentleman called David Goodchild contacted the National Army Museum about his cousin, B. A. M. Skinner who had died intestate two years earlier.
Mr Goodchild acted as Administrator and was in the process of dispersing various memorabilia relating to Lt Gen Skinner. He offered various items to us by purchase or gift and sent us a memoir entitled,
Sketch of the Military Services of Lieutenant-General Skinner and his sons (1863: Banks Farrand, Stafford) to help us decide. Coincidently the inside cover has a note from Ann Maclean Skinner (1773-1864) with an introduction from her son.
I am afraid that we have heard nothing from Mr Goodchild since and I wondered whether you may be able to help? Do you know any members of the Skinner's family? I gather there are some relatives in Australia. The Museum would naturally like to return the memoir and it is not our property. His address from 2004 is no longer current.
I know this is perhaps a long shot but any help would be gratefully received!"
I was able to tell him that Bruce Allan Maclean Skinner was born on 29 August 1927, regn district Cambridge, mothers maiden name Goodchild, Register of births Vol no 3B, vol page 622. Also that he was the subject of a death recorded in December 2002 in North Surrey, Register of Deaths volume number 7571C, volume page NSC20.
In 1975, Quarter July-September, a Bruce Skinner married Gladys Corrie, Vol no. 13, vol page 2222, Registration District Kingston upon Thames, Surrey.
I did not obtain certificates for him and was not able to find a website with a family tree which included him.
