Lilith Reakes wrote to Christine Myers (aka Gould) in an undated letter, some time before 20 August 1991 (her second letter):
Charles or Charlie as Mum called him, was rather an enigma - little was known of him. He was a soldier in the Black Watch Regient, a Scottish Regiment. Mother told me he wore a kilt and looked very smart, Mum believed he went to Mesopotamia and married there, she often wondered what happened to him. I think she rather liked him!
Christine Myers email received by ARJ on 24 March 2005:
I believe "Charles" (in Lilith's letter) is my father. Thank goodness Edward was his second, not first, name! I told you about trying to contact the Black Watch regiment, but no response so far. I think she means he served in Mesopotamia, presumably in WW!. We know better about his marriage! He apparently did not keep in contact with his family, though he must have been in Bath frequently if he was such an avid supporter of the Bath rugby team. Joan found a newspaper cutting among his papers. It was all about what a great fan he was, how he went to all their matches, even on the continent. So she wrote to them informing them of his death. She got a reply describing him as such a gentleman, but that they had no idea he had any family!! No, I don't think a photo of Uncle Ted ever showed up, except for a group picture I'll send.
