David Jones 50 (b.1791) Cotton weaving Born in same county
Elizabeth Jones 50 (b.1791) Born in same county
Mary Ann Jones 25 (b.1816) Cotton weaving Born in same county
Frances Jones 20 (b.1821) Cotton weaving Born in same county
Frederick Jones 15 (b.1826) Cotton weaving Born in same county Frederick was actually born in 1825.
Neighbours included the Jacksons(C, John, William), the Layars (George, John, Joseph, Mary, Thomas), the Parkinsons (Ann, Eliza, James, Martha, Mary), Dennis Roach, Mary Thompson, the Turners (Ann, John, Joseph, Mary)
In the 1851 census, David and Elizabeth were living with their daughter Mary and son-in-law Benjamin Webster, and working as house servants. The parish or Roman Catholic records of marriages in 1814-16 might reveal Elizabeth's surname.
My mother told my brother that our father's family came from Mold, Flintshire, but the record above, with the evidence that David Jones was born in Lancashire, seems to show that it was his parents or grandarents who came from Wales, not him.
This was near the start of the industrial revolution and from 'Prince of Pleasure' by Saul David, a book about the the times of George III and his son the Prince of Wales, I note (p.198) that Beau Brummell, who was then Captain of a troop in the Prince's regiment, the 10th Light Dragoons, resigned (not, I think, out of principle), when the regiment was warned that it might be sent to Lancashire to put down disturbances amongst cotton spinners.
Alan Ray-Jones.
From GenUKI:
"Mold is a market town situated in a small but fertile plain, surrounded by rugged hills, richly productive of mineral treasure. It consists principally of one long and spacious street, comprising 682 houses, and has a population amounting to 4235. On the north side is a mount, partly natural, and partly artificial, from where is a fine view of of the circumjacent country, with Moel-y-famma (sic) rising proudly pre-eminent among the Clwydian hills".
[From North Wales, Rev. J. Evans, 1812]
Mold is one of the "ancient parishes" of Flintshire, and originally comprised the twenty-five townships of Arddunwent, Argoed, Birchenald, Bistre, Broncoed, Cilrhedynnen, Groesonnen, Gwernaffield, Gwernymynydd, Gwysanau, Hartsheath, Hendebifa, Leeswood, Llai, Llong, Llwynegrin, Nercwys, Pantymwyn, Pontbleiddyn, Pentre, Rhual, Rhydgoli, Tre'r Beirdd, Treuddyn and Waunyrwyddfid.
Both Nercwys and Treuddyn became chapelries at an early date, and by the nineteenth century they were effectively separate parishes, although until 1832 they were administered jointly.
On 23 May 1844, the new parish of Bistre was created, from the township of Bistre and part of the township of Argoed.
On the same date, the new parish of Gwernaffield was created from the townships of Gwernaffield and Hendrebifa; and the new parish of Pontbleiddyn was created from the township of Hartsheath and part of the township of Leeswood.
On 27 May 1844, Nercwys was officially recognised as a separate parish, comprising the townships of Nercwys and Arddunwent.
In 1865, part of the township of Gwysanau was lost to the new parish of Rhydymwyn
END Manchester Cathedral certificate 1342 (page 448) describes him as a 'Servant Man'. He couldn't sign his name but Elizabeth signed hers. They were married by Jos. Broookes in the presence of John Beard. There may have been other witnesses but no names were recorded.
