"Mavis never married. I was told that she had
fallen in love with a man and her mother disapproved of him and Mavis
went into a deep depression and fought depression throughout her
life. I have no idea where the money came from to support her. She
had a room in a boarding house in Kingston, Ontario when I found out
about her and starting to write to her. She only wrote very short
notes and nothing much about family. She did mention in a note
19/18/1981, that as a school girl she "liked reading, writing,
composition, drawing and spelling? She loved to paint and was an avid
reader when we corresponded stating that she read 18 or more books a
week. She spent many hours at the library near by in charge of the
Patients Library and at one time wrote that her paintings were on
display there."
