Canada In her letter dated 19 January 2000 Bet Redhead, widow of Stanley, nephew of Florence writes:

'Florence wanted to go out in the world, when leaving school she worked in a draper's shop at Chatteris, then took off and worked similarly in Sudbury in Suffolk. Aunt Florrie met up with a young man in Sudbury, and after a time Claude Wright (his name) decided to try his luck in Canada, telling Auntie he would come back after a time and take her with him; this he did.

Grandma Welcher did not approve, however Auntie was determined to go; they settled in Brandon Manitoba. Auntie worked in a Drapery shop and eventually acquired it and it was successful, Uncle Claude worked in a jewellery shop - he likewise acquired the business. They had no family but both had families back in England. Of course 100 miles in a car to them was no distance and Auntie occasionally paid a visit to her cousin Bob Welcher on his farm. I must say Auntie had a far different life syle to Stan's mum [ie her sister Elizabeth], she knowing that Lizzie was here to care for her parents.'
