Jack Ernest Alexander Wilson 1911-1960 - information mostly from Janet Wilson, sent to ARJ by Elaine Wilson 31.1.2011.
"Ernst" not "Ernest" was how he was baptized, but when he legally changed his name it was to "Jack Ernest."
Born 1-25-11 in Toronto, Ontario and brought up in Brantford, Ontario. Became a naturalized citizen of the United States October 03, 1941.
Worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Companty in Detroit, Michigan, area for 30 years as a Plant Engineer.
Tried to enlist in the navy in World War 2 after Pearl Harbor but was rejected because of a bad heart valve due to rheumatic fever as a child.
Died 1-10-60 of 3rd heart attack in Mt.Clemens, Michigan. He was buried in the Clinton Grove Cemetery, Clinton Township, MI 48036.
Married Jean Ruehle 1935, divorced 1941, one daughter Janet Kay Wilson 09-13-1937 - . Janet married Earl Kolke 1967. No children, widowed 1999.
Married Glendora Schmitt - date unknown but I am trying to find out. Five children: Mark Alexander Wilson March 4, 1947, Harvey James Wilson January 25, 1948, Paul Michael Wilson, August 15, 1949, Laura Ann Wilson, January 23, 1951, Jeffrey Glen Wilson February 28, 1956. (all still living)
("Harvey, Jack's older brother was an executive for Michigan Bell was responsible for getting Jack to join the company. Jack studied electrical engineering and was very efficient at it. He eventually had his own office and secretary. Jack invented and installed a gadget that saved the company many, many dollars." Letter from his sister Mavis, April 22, 1981.
I corresponded with Mavis, she never really wrote much. I do know that she volunteered at a library close to the boarding home she was living in. She loved to paint and the library had her paintings on the walls. I contacted the library but no one knew what happened to them after her death. According to Glendora years and years ago she said that Mavis was in love with a man and her mother did not allow the marriage. Mavis was devastated over this and never married.
Phillip had an accident at one point in his life with carbon monoxide which left him mentally and physically handicapped.
Elaine also wrote:
Jack loved to sail and his sailboat's name was the Spindrift. He also had a beautiful wooden Cris Craft 22' Sportsman boat named Auf Wiedersehen. Jack was meticulous a neighbor told us even a fly knew better than to land on his boat! He was also a wonderful craftsman of woodworking. One day Glendora saw a china cabinet that she liked. Jack drew up the plans and built it for her. He had a wood working shop in his garage.
Please let me know if this helps and what more I can do. Thank you again for doing this.
