In the 1841 census James Pearce Junior is shown as a silk dyer and at that time he and Priscilla had four children (James, William, Priscilla and Samuel) and were living with Mercy Callaway (‘of independent means’, aged 35) in Bath Street. A clue to her independent means is the mention of her name below, on Dr Robin Alston’s website:
