Mildred Redhead

Alan and Elizabeth Ray-Jones visited her in the Isle of Man in 1998 but found that she had lost her memory yet was upset at losing her flat.

Bett Redhead (her sister-in-law) wrote about her in December 1998:

"... how lovely of you to visit Mildred in the Nursing Home in Ramsey. A house in the village [Doddington] that belonged to Grandma and Gradndad Welcher - they lived there after their retirement - got badly damaged in the roof just after last Xmas due to electric fault, it happened during the night of Sunday 18 January. I telephoned Mildred on the Monday evening she was then in her flat, and she was talking normally then, remembering the house and what a lovely garden Grandad had there, it did not seem possible that she deteriorated so quickly after that. Elizabeth [her daughter] had to make several journeys across by air and eventually the Dr decided Mildred would have to go into a Home to be cared for. Elizabeth did look around the Walsall area but Mildred - and her husband Ken - always said they would never leave the Island and come back to the mainland; and the Dr did not think it would be good for Mildred to uproot now. Elizabeth and her husband Steve (who has now retired from the police force) rented a van and went across to Ramsey and cleared the flat..."
