Robert Mitchell Welcher was born May 20 1882, the oldest son of Charles William and Martha Welcher. Bob and his cousin James Marshall came to Eden Manitoba in 1906. James was trained as a blacksmith in England and worked at his trade in Eden. Bob worked in several places before he and James came to Welwyn, Saskatchewan to take over the blacksmith shop. Bob worked on farms and did a lot of breaking of land. He was a grain buyer for the Farmers Elevator until it was sold to the United Grain Growers where he continued employment until 1942 when he retired due to poor health. Bob died November 11, 1943.

Bob married Mary Byers in 1926, second youngest daughter of Jack and Isabella Byers. Mary was born November 1, 1887 on a farm 1 mile from Welwyn and lived in Welwyn village following her marriage. Mary died January 11, 1992.
