From 'The James, Pyne, Dixon Family Book' - the Reminiscences of Edith Elizabeth Chaplin, 1913:
The only son, and second child, of Thomas James was Thomas Andrew, who died about 1842, unmarried. He is reported as having been remarkably witty in conversation, clever and accomplished. I only remember one story of his childhood. He had remained untaught till 6 years of age, when a clever governess was provided for him and Aunt Maryanne. Tom learnt to read in six weeks, at the end of which time he could read the newspaper, while Maryanne collapsed with brain fever. 'Uncle Tom' died before he was thirty from brain Disease - acute mania followed by a speedy death.
