From Clan Gillean, 1954:
Lachlan's successor was Eachainn Ruadh, known as "Red Hector of the Battles." His wife was a daughter of the Earl of Douglas. He was worthy of the name he bore, and ever ready to share in any worthy cause. In 1411, when his uncle, Donald of the Isles, swept across Scotland to secure, at the point of the sword, his claim to the earldom of Ross, among the ten thousand men who followed him were Hector and his clan. The clash came at the "Red Harlaw," one of the best-known and least understood of the battles of Scottish history. Though the fight seemed undecisive, yet Donald's claims were vindicated, and, after his death, acknowledged to his son. In the crisis of conflict Hector and Irvine of Drum fought through the stark jostle of death till they came face to face, when each slew the other. Hector's body was carried by the MacInneses and MacIlvorays all the long journey to his sleeping-place in Iona's holy isle.
