In her letter dated 19 January 2000 Bet Redhead, widow of Stanley, grandson of John Glen Welcher writes:
'John Glen Welcher's love after his family were his steam engines and threshing tackles, although he farmed as well that came second leaving that to his son Jack to look after. One elderly resident on Primrose Hill told me once, in the summer just before the new season of threshing started, if you came into John Welcher's yard during the daytime more often than not he would meet you with a paint brush in one hand, and a paint pot in the other.
Grandad and Grandma were regular churchgoers and Grandad a Churchwarden, a very repected man and wife. Grandma Welcher was of course busy with her family but did all the bookwork and sending accounts out. From various old papers it would appear everything was kept in apple pie order. Stan's Mum use (sic) to say "Father use to say after spending a day from around 6am till 5pm probably, one was too tired to do book work at night"'
From 1871 Census (Film RG10/1609-58+):
